michael cera plays bass in a rad new band…
let’s talk mister heavenly. not only does this band have a raw-awesome sound, they managed to get michael cera to tour with them as their bassist. we saw them open for passion pit in pomona last night, and it was amazing! the three original members of mister heavenly come from well known bands such as [...]
amazing!!! no one hit wonders here. league is solid across the board and sure to be very popular very soon. their two eps of this last year are vibrant, catchy, synth-driven and bound to be stuck in your head.
an unofficial video for ‘golden maps’ off their first ep.
poppy, rustic, dreamy… such a find! “returned in time” stems from the standout talent of scotland based evil hand, comprised of one mastermind, derek bates. this is the type of song that makes you feel lost in a moment. the melody is engaging, sincere, and memorable.
lotus mason is intriguing to say the least. we’ve been wrapped up in their tunes since discovering their amazingly fresh cover of the xx’s “crystalised”. the london based band recently released their self-titled debut album, which is a perfect blend between the soulful voice of front man blair jollands with the melodic rock that backs him.
we’ve been keeping a close eye on mister heavenly since we saw them open for passion pit last december. the band recently announced they will be releasing their debut album, out of love, on august 16, 2011. we are all too excited! till then, here’s one of their coolest songs to hold you over.
these are some talented youngsters whose memorable guitar riffs and smooth melodies are more than worthy of the ipod. formed in 2007, chicago’s smith westerns have been steadily gaining popularity touring with such bands as passion pit, mgmt, and florence and the machine. be sure catch them in the near future playing shows with yeasayer. you can also listen to/download more of their songs here.

we’ve recently been enjoying the fun, upbeat, synthetic rock of galvanic elephants. this talented 4-piece from tartu, estonia just released their first single last december. be on the lookout for their full ep in may 2011.
the recent album “go” is a gorgeous tantalizing metronomical beauty from one of the most talented musicians of our day, jonsi. be sure to watch the official video of the standout track “animal arithmetic”, bursting with visual aesthetics of confetti, sparklers, and fireworks.
check out this charming retro feel-good video from jaill. this subpop records 4-piece cranks out melodic upbeat pop-rock, sweet but with a little kick to it.
recently came across ‘sad fuzz’ by ty segall. we’re definitely appreciating the raw-garage sound that this somewhat 60′s rock sounding band has. it’s always great to listen to catchy, simple, upbeat songs where you can hear all the instruments being played. lead singer ty segall has been a member of many bands prior, his talent ranging from vocals to guitar to drums. listen to more of these san francisco based rockers here.
a blissful tune that takes mesmerizing to the next level. we’ve been getting lost in echo lake’s “in dreams” since we first hit the play button. The unsigned London based band recently released their debut album, young silence, and we’ve become big fans of each one of its soothingly psychedelic tracks.
